Black Friday 2024 Manifesto
One more year, Black Friday arrives and we are invaded by a lot of mixed emotions. And as it is already a tradition in Labienhecha, here we leave you our manifesto.
We still think the same thing: it doesn't have to be so black. We really believe that it doesn't have to be black or white, neither radically against or in favor. And the truth is that many times we tend to judge, radicalize and condemn things without stopping for a moment to reflect, without trying to empathize or put ourselves in the shoes of all parties.
Here is our vision (and manifesto):
I. Black Friday, the consumer and privilege
Did you know that the people who buy the most on Black Friday are moms, people with low purchasing power and certain minorities?
Black Friday doesn't have to mean an irresponsible act of purchase, but it can be an opportunity for thoughtful and studied buying, especially for those who cannot afford to buy at regular prices. For us, this is super important: THE ACT OF RESPONSIBILITY AND CONSCIOUSNESS SHOULD BE DONE BY THOSE WHO PRECISELY HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF CHOOSING WHETHER TO BUY WITH A DISCOUNT OR NOT, just as one has the privilege (or not) of being able to buy sustainable fashion. If you are privileged, buy without a discount, and you will contribute a lot to projects like ours. But if you are not, buy with a discount (and don't feel bad).
II. Black Friday and the brand
Buying at a discount doesn't necessarily devalue the work of the people behind it either.
On the contrary, we see it differently: it can be an opportunity to expand the reach of their work and reach a more diverse audience.
For brands like ours, making that discount sacrifices our profit to a large extent. A necessary profit to be able to grow, continue and improve. But losing a large part of that profit becomes another benefit: democratizing the consumption of sustainable products that in most cases are a luxury.
Perhaps we should stop demonizing brands and projects that make a great effort to satisfy those who need that discount and who are also making a daily effort to do things right.
III. Black Friday and conscience
Buying from sustainable brands always brings a lot of value, even on Black Friday. By doing so, you support companies and projects that contribute to local commerce, and positively impact society.
Besides, needing, buying or wanting things is good (and at a discount or on sale, too!). The problem is not the brands or the consumers who need or buy with that discount, but a system that criminalizes who we should not, losing focus of the real problem.
This may be a day that invites reflection and questioning of a consumption that, in itself, is not bad (bad would be, for example, when in the context of Black Friday we are deceived with price tricks ...).
The question is that we consume wisely and where we bring more value.
IV. Black Friday and Labienhecha
The fact that we participate in this event does not change our essence, our values or our way of being.
Honestly: we think it is always preferable to buy local, artisan and, ultimately, buy well (and who does it well). Because since we do it and given the choice, it is better if every euro we move stays here, generating local employment and activating our economy (the cleanest one).
We know that buying well sometimes is not easy because as we said, sustainable fashion is a luxury for most people. That's why we we are committed to do everything possible to reach more and more people.
